Looking for work in Hamburg without German
Hamburg is a media, logistics and shipping city with a large e-commerce and consumer-brand scene, and that mix is what reaches this page: online retail, distributed product and engineering teams, and the occasional hospitality or operations role.
Who hires here
It is a smaller English-language market than Berlin or Munich, and it tends to concentrate around a handful of employers rather than spread across the city — so it is worth looking at who is actually hiring here rather than at how many jobs there are in total. The employers posting most today are named under this note, and each links to everything they have open. Where the jobs are explains why the pattern looks like that.
You would not be arriving alone. At the end of 2025 about 420,000 of Hamburg's nearly two million residents — 21.2% — held a passport other than a German one.[1]
What it costs to live here
The city's rent index, the Hamburger Mietenspiegel 2025, puts the middle net rent at €9.94 per square metre a month — "net" meaning before heating and service charges are added.[2] For a 60 m² flat at that rate, plan on roughly €600 a month before those costs. Finding a flat covers what a landlord expects to see.
The Deutschlandticket costs €63 a month in 2026 and covers local buses, U-Bahn and S-Bahn in Hamburg and across Germany.[3]
Your first weeks
Register your address no later than two weeks after you move. Bring a valid passport and a Wohnungsgeberbestätigung — a form your landlord fills in to confirm you moved in.[4] If you are working in Hamburg on a residence permit, the Hamburg Welcome Center for Professionals is where permits for skilled workers and EU Blue Card holders are handled.[5] After you arrive covers the rest, in order.
What this page is, and is not
Everything on this page is what those employers advertised this week, not a survey of Hamburg. Work in the city that is advertised in German only never reaches this site.
