Looking for work in Munich without German

Munich's English-language listings lean towards engineering and research — aerospace, defence, semiconductors, robotics and energy sit alongside the software, product and biotech roles, and a lot of American companies run their German office from here. These are employers hiring internationally for skills that are scarce everywhere, which is why the advert is in English.

Who hires here

No German city is home to more of the country's largest listed companies. Eight members of the DAX have their head office in Munich or the region around it — Allianz, BMW, Infineon, MTU Aero Engines, Munich Re, Scout24, Siemens and Siemens Energy — against four in Düsseldorf and three each in Stuttgart, Essen and Frankfurt.[1] The city's business development office names information and communication technology, automotive and mobility, life sciences, financial services and the creative industries as its main clusters, and reports that more than 43% of employees in the city hold a university degree.[2]

You will not be the only newcomer. Around 30% of Munich's 1.6 million residents are foreign nationals, from more than 180 countries.[2]

What it costs to live here

Rent is the number to plan around. The city's own rent index, the Mietspiegel 2025, puts the average net rent at €15.38 per square metre a month — "net" meaning before heating and service charges are added.[3] For a 60 m² flat that is roughly €920 a month before those costs. Finding a flat explains what a landlord expects to see and what comes on top of the rent, and Salaries and pay explains what a gross salary in an offer actually turns into each month — worth working through before you accept anything.

Getting around is simpler. The Deutschlandticket costs €63 a month in 2026 and covers local buses, trams, U-Bahn and S-Bahn in Munich and across Germany.[4]

Your first weeks

You have two weeks after moving in to register your address. In Munich that means booking an appointment at a Bürgerbüro in advance and bringing your passport and a Wohnungsgeberbestätigung — a form your landlord signs to confirm you live there. The rental contract on its own is not enough.[5] After you arrive covers what follows, in order.

What this page is, and is not

What you see here is what a particular set of employers advertised this week, not a picture of the city's job market. Much of the work in and around Munich is at firms that advertise in German only, and none of that reaches this site. Where the jobs are explains the pattern.
