Looking for work in Frankfurt without German

Frankfurt is known for banking, and the English-language adverts that reach this page are mostly not banking. They come from consultancies, enterprise software, aviation and — less expectedly — games development. The common thread is not the industry but the shape of the company: an employer with offices in several countries tends to advertise in English wherever it hires.

Who hires here

The banks do hire in English. Much of that hiring moves through recruiters and internal transfers rather than a public careers page, which is exactly the kind of advert this site cannot see. The European Central Bank has its main building here,[1] and three DAX companies have their head office in the city.[2] The city's business development agency lists finance, trade, real estate, industry, IT and telecommunications, the creative industries, and logistics and mobility as its main sectors.[3]

Frankfurt is an international city: at the end of 2025, 32.1% of its 781,337 residents were foreign nationals.[4]

What it costs to live here

The city's 2026 rent index, as presented in June 2026, puts the average local comparison rent at €12.28 per square metre a month, 6.8% more than in the 2024 index.[5] That is the rent before heating and service charges; for a 60 m² flat it comes to about €740 a month before those costs. Finding a flat explains what a landlord expects to see, and Salaries and pay explains what the headline figure in an offer actually becomes once tax and contributions come off it.

The Deutschlandticket costs €63 a month in 2026 and covers local buses, trams, U-Bahn and S-Bahn in Frankfurt and across Germany.[6]

Your first weeks

Register your address within two weeks of moving in, in person at a Bürgeramt, with a valid passport and a Wohnungsgeberbestätigung — a form your landlord signs to confirm you moved in.[7] On Mondays and Wednesdays the city's citizens' offices take visitors without an appointment; on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays you need one.[8]

The WELCOMECENTER Hessen, in the building of the employment agency in Frankfurt, advises international professionals in English on work permits, recognition of qualifications, learning German and applying for jobs.[9] After you arrive covers the rest, in order.

What this page is, and is not

Read this page as a sample of one week's public postings rather than a picture of the city. Where the jobs are sets out which industries advertise in English and which do not.
