Looking for work in Stuttgart without German
Stuttgart is automotive and engineering country — deep technical work, and more German-speaking than a city of its size would suggest. The English-language listings that do appear here are mostly engineering and research roles, at robotics and software companies and at the technology arms of larger manufacturers.
Who hires here
The city describes itself as a hot spot for innovation in the automotive cluster, electronics and information technology, and mechanical engineering.[1] Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and Bosch have their head offices in the region, and the regional business development agency counts 118,000 people working directly in its automotive cluster.[2] Three DAX companies are based in the city.[3]
That combination is worth knowing before you plan a move. There is serious technical work here and the adverts on this page do not require German, but the wider regional market asks for it far more often than Berlin or Munich do, so a search limited to English will feel narrow. Where the jobs are is the honest version of that, and Learning German covers the courses if you decide to take it on.
It is also an international city: on 30 June 2026, 27.9% of its 603,262 residents were foreign nationals.[4]
What it costs to live here
Stuttgart's rent index for 2025 and 2026 puts the average net rent at €11.15 per square metre a month — "net" meaning before heating and service charges are added.[5] For a 60 m² flat that is about €670 a month before those costs. Finding a flat explains what a landlord expects to see.
The Deutschlandticket costs €63 a month in 2026 and covers local buses, Stadtbahn and S-Bahn in Stuttgart and across Germany.[6]
Your first weeks
Register your address within two weeks of moving in. Book an appointment online; when there is capacity, same-day appointments can be booked in the morning. Bring your passport and a Wohnungsgeberbestätigung — your landlord's confirmation that you moved in.[7]
The Welcome Center Stuttgart, run by the city and the regional business development agency at Charlottenplatz 17, is a first point of contact for newcomers and refers you on to the right advice service.[8] After you arrive covers the rest, in order.

Everything here is what these employers advertised this week, not a picture of the region.
